The Helambu region lies north of Kathmandu. It is about an hour’s car ride out of the city. The first day’s trek ascends almost 1000 meters through a Sivapuri national park to a ridge at 2500m that gave us the first glimpse of the high Himalayan peak to the north.
Helambu is nearest trekking destination from Kathmandu but it is less crowded & culturally preserved open Buddhist museum. There are several indigenous ethnic groups lives in the Helambu area, including the very colorful Tamangs & sherpas.O our first day from Chisapani more than 30 white mountain peaks including Annapurna, Ganesh Himal, Lanagtang Lirung & Dorjelakpa can be viewed. On second day of trek we descend from Chispani to Pati Bhanjyang, a pleasant village. From Village Gul Byangjyang we enjoy 180 degree, crystal-clear view of the Himalyan peaks.
On day third we reach at Tharepati that lies on the ridge at 3500 meters offering magnificent views of valley & white mountain peaks. From Therapati we descent down to Melamchigoun a wonderful Buddhist settlement surrounded by forest. After 3 hrs trek Tarleghyang is reached. Tarkeghyang is main hub & attraction of Helambu. It is probably the largest village in Helambu on the lap of Aama Angri Hill. The village is very clean & naturally beautiful village where there is a famous monastery in the middle of village. The walking between Targeghyang & Sermathang Village is most rewarding & enjoyable through blue pine forest passing several small Buddhist village.
